I'm on google+ Amicoolyet? Still playing with it but i like the privacy defaults already. Phone number.. not default exposed to everyone in the world. This is sanity.

Made a first post and google seems to have (very helpfully) sent emails to people who don't have a google+ account yet. It asked me if that was ok, very nice :)

So! If anyone reading this would like an invite, PM me your email and i'll get one to you. You might have to wait some indeterminate amount of time before it lets you in, but it'll happen. I previously signed up for the waiting list and nothing ever came. So getting a friend invite seems the best option right now.

Not that I am pro facebook, but, if you make the assumption that your friends on facebook ARE ACTUALLY your friends, then there is no problem with the default privacy setting to expose your phone number. Furthermore, regardless of that assumption, like any tool you use, it is in your best benefit to understand how to use it. You can create lists of people and then create custom permissions based off these lists. What you think should be a de facto default privacy setting, someone else might disagree with. You can't win the default game, but that's where the customization comes in.

Agreed, without customization it would be largely useless. But where it gets tricky is facebook could (and i think has in the past) lower the barrier to allow people to join your friends group. Then you would have to re-customize your privacy controls again.

My comment was more pointed to google defaulting to a more private setting whereas facebook tended (past tense since i haven't been on there for a long time) to default to an open setting.

But google+ has a long ways to go to prove itself. So far i like it.. but if it starts pulling the things FB did, i'll leave it. I mean, i'm actually boycotting facebook, so google+ should be even easier to quit if it comes to it.

BTW: that was a tough ip to trace! :)
